POS Scanner turns an Android phone's camera into a wireless barcode/QR scanner for point-of-sale checkouts. This page explains exactly what the app touches on your device, what it sends elsewhere, and what it deliberately never collects.

01Information we access

Camera

Used only to read barcodes and QR codes through on-device recognition (Google ML Kit). Frames are analyzed in memory as you scan — never saved to storage, never uploaded.

Scanned code data

Each decoded value is relayed over a WebSocket connection to the host and port you enter in the app's settings — typically a POS terminal on your own Wi‑Fi or LAN. That destination, and whatever happens to the data after it arrives, is controlled by whoever operates that terminal, not by us.

Connection diagnostics

If the app can't reach the configured server, it can report technical details — device model, Android version, the target host and port, DNS/TCP timing, and the resulting error — to a diagnostics endpoint set up by whoever deployed the app, solely to help troubleshoot networking. This never includes scanned codes, contacts, files, or location.

02What we don't collect

  • No account, sign-in, or user profile
  • No contacts, SMS, call log, or media library access
  • No location access
  • No advertising or analytics SDKs
  • No selling or sharing of data with third parties for marketing

03App permissions

POS Scanner requests exactly three Android permissions:

PermissionWhy it's requested
Cameraandroid.permission.CAMERA Shows the live viewfinder and decodes barcodes/QR codes on screen.
Internetandroid.permission.INTERNET Opens the WebSocket connection to your POS terminal and, when needed, reports connection diagnostics.
Vibrateandroid.permission.VIBRATE Gives a short haptic pulse when a code is successfully scanned. No data involved.

04How data is used

Scanned values exist only to be relayed to the POS terminal you configure — POS Scanner has no server of its own that stores your scans. Diagnostic reports, when sent, are used solely to debug why a device couldn't connect, and are retained only as long as whoever runs that diagnostics endpoint keeps them.

05Storage & retention

POS Scanner keeps no scan history, images, or logs on the device once a session ends. Your configured server address and app preferences are stored locally in the app's own Android storage and are removed automatically when the app is uninstalled.

06Third-party services

Barcode decoding runs through Google's ML Kit on-device barcode-scanning library — recognition happens locally on your device, and camera images are not transmitted to Google as part of this feature. POS Scanner does not integrate any advertising network, analytics SDK, or crash-reporting service.

07Children's privacy

POS Scanner is a business tool for point-of-sale operations and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
